Recent rainfall has led to local rivers in Armavir and Aragatzotn Marzes flooding their banks. However, the two Regional Authorities report there is no cause for undue concern.
Armavir Deputy Regional Governor Arayik Aghababyan told Hetq that there is no emergency situation at the present since many of the river beds were cleaned out early in the spring. He also says that given the light snow fall this past winter, there has been little substantial melt-off.
"But if the rains continue for another few days, the situation could get nasty," said Mr. Aghababyan.
Residents living up and down the banks of the Kasagh River, however, are quite concerned and are dreading the day when the muddy roiling waters will overflow the banks.
During prior years, work to clean portions of the river was carried out in the communities of Aygeshat, Dasht and Doghs, but the threat of flooding remains. Also threatened are the Aragatzotn communities of Ria Taza, Vardenis, Aragadz, Arayi, Voskehat and Oshakan.
