Public Eyesore: Kilikia Bus Station's Welcoming Toilets
While the Yerevan Municipality boasts about planting trees and flowers along the capital’s streets and squares, the condition of public toilets remains a sore spot and outright embarrassment.
Just take a look at the toilets at the Kilikia Bus Terminal in Yerevan.
Believe it or not, you have to pay 100 AMD to use the facility.
When I asked the service attendant why the money isn’t being used to clean-up the toilets, she answered – I just work here. They told me to collect the money and that’s what I do.
While local Armenians might be inured at such sights, overseas visitors would probably do a double-take and back off in disgust.
How the Municipality can talk about fostering tourism when such public facilities exist escapes me.
