Gyumri native Varazdat Lalayan was crowned European champion in the +109 kg weight category at the European Weightlifting Championship in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, after lifting 450 kg in the combined event.

Lalayan won gold at the European Championships held last year in Sofia.

Armenia’s weightlifters won ten medals: two gold, six silver, and two bronze. The team came in third in the standings.
