
Justice Minister and U.S. Ambassador Inspect Conditions at Abovyan Correctional Facility
Armenian Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan and U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills visited the Abovyan Correctional Facility today to check on conditions in which female inmates are kept.
The two, according to a government press release, also asked about the rehabilitative and professional training programs being offered to inmates and toured the facility’s cafeteria, computer classroom, hair salon, medical unit.
They also visited an exhibition of handiworks made by the female inmates.
Ambassador Mills stressed the importance of the inmates’ physical and psychological health to facilitate their eventual reintroduction into society.
The ambassador said that the work being done at Abovyan could serve as an example for the country’s other correctional facilities.
