Rock superstar Serj Tankian touched down in Yerevan on May 7.

Anti-government protest leader Nikol Pashinyan was waiting at Zvartnots Airport to welcome him.

Pashinyan and Tankian then went to Republic Square where tens of thousands of fans cheered the arrival of the lead singer of System of a Down.

Tankian took the stage and sang Bari Arakil.

Armenia’s National Assembly is set to elect the country’s next prime minister today, May 8.

Pashinyan, declaring himself the “people’s candidate”, told the crowd he’s confident of winning the election.

He called on people to rally at Republic Square to watch the election proceedings on large outdoor screens set up for the occasion.
