Yerevan: Demonstrators Oppose Bill Designed to Draw More Lake Sevan Water
Several people demonstrated out Armenia’s National Assembly to protest a government proposal to release an additional 100 million cubic meters of water from Lake Sevan for irrigation purposes.
The parliament will debate the proposal today which has been introduced in the form of a bill to amend the existing law on Sevan’s eco-system.
The protesters, calling themselves S.O.S. Sevan, held signs saying that the lake has no additional water to give.
Annually, 170 million cubic meters of the lake’s water is drained for irrigation and other purposes.
