According to the recently released 2016 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), Armenia ranked 37th, with a score of 81.6, out of 180 countries.
This ranking, according to the EPI, is an improvement for Armenia.
The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranks countries’ performance on high-priority environmental issues in two areas: protection of human health and protection of ecosystems.
Within these two policy objectives, the EDPI scores country performance in nine issues comprised of twenty indicators.
Armenia’s neighbors ranked as follows: Azerbaijan (31st place), Turkey (92nd), Iran (105th) and Georgia (111th).
Finland garnered the top ranking with a score of 90.68 while Somalia came in last with a score of 27.66.
The 2016 Environmental Performance Index is a project lead by the Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy (YCELP) and Yale Data-Driven Environmental Solutions Group at Yale University (Data-Driven Yale), the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University, in collaboration with the Samuel Family Foundation, McCall MacBain Foundation, and the World Economic Forum.
