Armenian Minister: Basturma and Sujukh Exports to Russia Now Permitted
At a meeting today in Yerevan with domestic food manufacturers, Armenia’s Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan said that since joining the Eurasian Economic Union the process of exporting of Armenian products had become greatly facilitated but that exports of meat still lagged.
Karapetyan told domestic producers that recently imposed Russian restrictions on Turkish agricultural goods opened new opportunities for Armenian producers.
The minister added that since Armenia could now export basturma and sujukh to Russia, this too would spur meat exports.
Domestic producers noted that food related exports have been increasing of late and that meat produced in Armenia is a quality product and competitive. If managed correctly, they believe that Russian demand will soar.
