Stepanakert Residents Protest New Building; Cops Harass Them (Video)
Residents along Nelson Stepanyan Street in Stepanakert, Artsakh, are complaining that a building now being constructed very close by will deprive them of any natural sunlight.
The angry residents took their complaint to the “We Will Not Remain Silent” civic group, stating that the new construction on a site that was open green space will block any sunlight to those living on the lower floors of surrounding buildings.
Residents say that local building code stipulates that new construction only 6-7 meters distant from existing buildings, as in this case, can only rise to a height of 2-4 meters.
As is, the new building seen here has already surpassed 10 meters.
33 residents have sent a protest letter to Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan and the mayor’s office.
It is not clear who is behind the construction.
The civic group also says that local police have harassed residents not to go public with their protest.
