Hovhannes Kizoghyan, who works as a technologies specialist at the Armenian Manuscript Digital Library, argues that when it comes to the printed word, books, paper is becoming more and more obsolete and that electronic versions are taking their place.
The digitalization of Armenian books was a project started in 1999 at the American University of Armenia with the financial assistance of Alice Ohanessian, an American-Armenian. At that time the Armenian Classical Manuscript Digital Library was founded.
Today, the new site contains western Armenian literature and works of writers from the diaspora. Furthermore, the site’s Armenian version uses the classical orthography.
Marketing Manager Zarmineh Zeytountsyan says that the site aims to become an academic research resource and an outlet for scientific and scholarly papers.
