On the last day of school, Ruzanna Grigoryan, Principal at the Aygeshat village school in Armavir Marz, was dismissed. Officials from the Armavir Regional Administration claim she was demanding 15,000 AMD from each graduating pupil. It is reported that the principal’s daughter, a teacher for the school’s graduating class, also participated in the collection of funds.
Parents and students are said to have called the Regional Administration’s "hot line" to report the illegal collection. Gayaneh Sayadyan, who heads the Administrations Department of Education, Culture and Sports, traveled to the school and accepted the allegations to be true. The principal was immediately sacked. However, Ruzanna Grigoryan, in a conversation with Hetq, denied that she had been summarily dismissed, claiming that she had resigned for "health reasons".
"It is no secret, that funds are collected from the students at the end of the year in all the schools and that parents want to organize a big party for the kids. The parents collect the funds. I did not and neither did my daughter," Ms. Grigoryan stated to Hetq.
Hasmik Ygoryan, the principal’s daughter, is also said to be resigning in the next few days as well.
