Boris Kharatyan, President of Armenia's Confederation of Trade Unions, told Hetq that his organization had no statistics on how many workers in Armenia have lost their jobs due to the economic crisis.
"We don't receive such statistics. But it surely is a factor even though the worker isn't given a definite reason for being dismissed. One can only naturally assume that if the work force has seen drastic cuts, it is in large part due to the crisis," said Mikayel Piliposyan, who heads the Confederation's legal division.
Mr. Kharatyan said his organization had come up with a brochure explaining what rights workers have, especially when it comes being asked by the employer to write a voluntary letter of resignation. "We have distributed the pamphlet to workers at several companies and organizations. They need to be better informed," he said.
