Mayor Claims There are Jobs for All in Dilijan
Dilijan Mayor Armen Santrosyan today boasted that the town in northern Armenia could get work for any man seeking employment.
"There are very few people from Dilijan and the neighbouring villages that are going abroad to seek work. It's due to the large-scale construction projects taking place," Mayor Santrosyan noted.
He told reporters about the 3 year program to transform Dilijan into a center of tourism and business and that the bulk of the work would be completed by year's end.
Mayor Santrosyan said that a third bank had opened its doors in Dilijan and that more were expected to follow suit. He noted that all bank employees were local residents.
Most of the investment money has come from private sources, he said, adding that the government was assisting with road repair and other infrastructure renovation like schools.
The government will allocate $1.5 million towards road repair in the coming year.
Mayor Santrosyan said that there were over 30 resort homes and health spas in the area plus a number of private houses that can be rented by tourists.
He added that most of the visiting tourists were diaspora Armenians from the United States and Europe.
