Dirty Water Sends Nubarashen Residents to Hospital
A criminal investigation has been launched into the poisoning of a number of residents of Yerevan’s Nubarshen neighbourhood from dirty water.
According to the Nubarshen Administrative District Prosecutor, the case is based on information relayed from the Nork Infectious Diseases Hospital that it admitted 25 residents from the same street in the district with intestinal disorders from the evening of June 3 to around midday on June 4.
An examination pointed to drinking water as the culprit. It appears that due to the recent heavy rainfall, water from the River Azad overflowed its banks and got mixed into the potable water system before the entire system was shut down due to a lack of pressure.
In all, 54 local residents wound up in hospital for treatment and 44 have been questioned.
