Karabakh Ceasefire Announced: Stepanakert Must Disband Defense Army
A Russian-brokered ceasefire will take effect in Artsakh on September 20 at 1pm local time.
Representatives of Artsakh and Azerbaijan will meet in the Azerbaijani town of Yevlakh on September 21 for talks about the rights and security of Karabakh Armenians within the framework of Azerbaijan’s constitution.
According to a statement released by official Stepanakert, the local Karabakh Defense Army will be disbanded and disarmed.
The statement says that while Artsakh armed forces “heroically defended” the country against the superior Azerbaijani military, it too suffered losses and that “in some areas the enemy managed to break into the military positions of the defense forces, taking control of a number of heights and strategic road junctions.”
