Armenia Abstains from U.N. Vote Condemning Russian Annexation of Ukrainian Territory
Armenia was one of the thirty-five nations that abstained from voting for a U.N. General Assembly resolution condemning and rejecting Russia’s move to annex Ukrainian territory.
The resolution was adopted yesterday by a vote of 135 - 5.
Voting with Russia against the resolution were Belarus, North Korea, Syria and Nicaragua.
Russia’s Ambassador to the U.N. Vassily Nebenzia described the vote as politicized and provocative.
“By introducing this draft, Western states are pursuing their own geopolitical goals and are once again trying to use the members of the General Assembly as bit players,” Vassily Nebenzia said.
