No Tender Deal: Armenia to Spend $7.5 Million for Police Cars
Armenian will spend 3.1 billion drams (US$7.447m) to purchase police patrol cars for the provinces of Aragatzotn, Gegharkunik, Tavush and Kotayk.
The vehicles will be purchased from Toyota Yerevan, a company 60% owned by Samvel Mayrapetyan (co-owner of the H2 TV), 30% by Sedrak Kocharyan (son of former Armenian president Robert Kocharyan) and 10% by company director Vahe Gzraryan.
The deal was reached without a tender bid.
Armenian Chief of Police Vahe Ghazaryan claims that a tender was announced in May, but that no one responded. He said that only Toyota Yerevan, of all the car brand distributors in Armenia, can supply the vehicles with the required specifications and on time.
45 manual Toyota Fortuner vehicles costing $38,200 each and 130 automatic Fortuners ($44,200 each) will be purchased.
