
Armenia to Spend $26.8 Million on Highway Improvements
The Armenian government says it will spend 11 billion drams (US$ 26.8m) to repair roadways in the country.
Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Vache Terteryan told officials at a government cabinet session today said that 2.6 billion drams will be used to repair of two interstate highways, 5.5 billion to overhaul six national highways, and 3.7 billion on four provincial roadways.
Robert Ghukasyan, governor of Armenia’s southern Syunik province said that work to build an alternate route connecting the towns of Tatev and Kapan was ongoing, but slowly.
The new roadway bypasses sections of the current route now under Azerbaijani military control.
Azerbaijan has deployed customs checkpoints along sections of the Kapan-Goris roadway in Armenia. Baku claims these border sections are part of its territory.
