Chairman of Armenian Parliament's Standing Committee on Defense and Security Calls on Russia to Intervene in Border Fighting
Andranik Kocharyan, Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security has called on Russia to intervene in the fighting that broke out earlier today along the eastern Armenia-Azerbaijani border.
"We are a founding member of the CSTO, and at the same time we have cooperative relations with Russia, the guarantor of the ceasefire regime after the 44-day war, which must respond to the violation of the ceasefire regime," Kocharyan said.
Earlier, the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported that Azerbaijani forces, using artillery fire, advanced into Armenian territory, capturing two Armenian military positions.
The ministry reports that the fighting continues.
Kocharyan said that the risk of a military escalation should be of concern to the international community, adding that the mercenaries who fought for Azerbaijan during the 2020 Karabakh war are still present in the region.
