Armenian Parliamentary Factions to Challenge Speaker Vote
The Armenian parliament’s opposition factions will challenge the constitutionality of yesterday’s vote that resulted in the election of Alen Simonyan as speaker.
All 71 Civil Contract faction MPs voted for Simonyan.
The minority Hayastan (Armenia) and I Have Honor blocs argue that the vote was unconstitutional because their nominees were not present at the parliamentary session when the elect was held.
The two blocs, citing this absence, boycotted yesterday’s vote.
