
Armenian Environmental Groups Raise "Ecocide" Alert in Artsakh
Citing the use of white phosphorus weapons by Azerbaijan, fifty Armenian environmental organizations have sent a letter to international organizations about the threat of ecocide in Artsakh.
The environmental groups state that the Azerbaijani military forces is targeting Artsakh’s virgin forest ecosystem with white phosphorus chemical weapons, which is in violation of international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, as well as UN conventions.
They point out that hundreds of plant and animal species are found in Artsakh, many of which are included in the country’s Red Book of Threatened Species and the global IUCN Red List:
