Yerevan Court Releases Nephew of Former Armenian Finance Minister on 30 Million AMD Bail
Yerevan’s Court of General Jurisdiction, on October 29, released Karen Khachatryan, the nephew of former Armenian Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan, on 30 million AMD ($60,760) bail.
The two Khachatryans have been detained since August 2019 after the family’s shady financial dealings were revealed in the Paradis Papers exposé in which Hetq participated.
Karen Khachatryan used to run an internal security division of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) that was headed by his uncle from 2008-2014.
Gagik Khachatryan, charged with large-scale embezzlement and abuse of official power, was granted 120 million AMD bail on October 29.
Lawyers for the two filed bail motions arguing that the health of their clients was threatened due to the recent coronavirus uptick in Armenia and the declared state of war.
